Zelgadis is a child of Earth, one of the magical race of stone-skinned Chimeras who dwell in the deep caves of the earth, and hunt the forests. Tori is a child of Air, a sylph, who fly through the skies free to travel the air currents with their huge wings, and call the high mountain cliffs home. They are two very different races who have never yet lain eyes on each other.

When the chimera rescues the Sylph and must care for her as she recovers, they not only learn about each others people, but themselves. But what happens when this strange Romeo and Juliet find their two races at war?
